Quick Verdict
If you need an ultra-narrow espresso machine for your apartment, buy the classic De'Longhi Dedica (EC680M) new. Check the seller and current price on Amazon before you order.
The Dedica Deluxe (EC685M) is a different model. We do not recommend it in this guide. If you choose it, check that the offer is new.
For a compact machine with fast ThermoJet heat-up, see our Breville Bambino guides, and buy the Bambino new.
For a budget machine, see our guide to the De'Longhi Stilosa.
Pair the Dedica with an espresso-capable grinder such as the TIMEMORE C3 ESP (not the Pro).

The Short Answer
| Decision | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Ultra-narrow machine for a rented counter | Classic De'Longhi Dedica | The machine this guide recommends. Buy new and check the seller and price. |
| Budget pump machine | De'Longhi Stilosa | Different need. See the budget espresso machine guide. |
| Fast ThermoJet heat-up, bought new | Breville Bambino | Covered in our machine guides. |
| Dedica Deluxe | A different model | Not covered here. In our recent research, it was sold by a third-party seller. |
| Grinder for this machine | TIMEMORE C3 ESP | Espresso-capable hand grinder. Not the Pro. |
| 58 mm machine to keep | Gaggia Classic Evo Pro | See Gaggia vs Bambino. |
If you need a narrow machine, buy the classic Dedica new. If budget is the priority, choose the Stilosa. If fast heat-up matters most, choose the Bambino and buy it new.
Apartment narrow-counter, tank, and the renter test
Measure the counter, not the lifestyle photo.
The Dedica's appeal in an apartment is its width. De'Longhi US lists 13 × 5.9 × 12 for the EC680M, and Amazon commonly shows 13 in deep × 5.9 in wide × 12 in tall. The Stilosa is 13.5 in wide on Amazon, so if counter width is your constraint, the Dedica is the better fit. Still measure the depth for pulling the rear tank and swinging the portafilter, plus room for a pitcher and a cloth for wiping down that does not have to live in the dish rack.
The tank is the renter feature. De'Longhi US lists a removable 34.83 oz reservoir, and retailers often say about 35 fl oz / 1.1 L. You refill it; you do not plumb in. Keep the machine near the sink so the walk to refill is short.
Weight is the move-out test. De'Longhi US lists 9.64 lb, and retailers often say about 9.3 lb. Either way, you can lift it without a cart. Pick a permanent slim spot, then plan the move.
The Dedica's thermoblock heats up in tens of seconds (about 40 seconds, per De'Longhi), not the Bambino's three-second ThermoJet. Plan to brew, then steam, then wipe. Pressurized baskets can get a weekday shot started, but they do not grind beans.
Renter test: can you unplug a slim 9–10 lb machine with a tank, box it, and take it to the next apartment? Yes. Before you order, make sure the listing is the classic Dedica, new, and not the Deluxe from a third-party seller.
What matters before buying (grinder + scale)
The machine is not the whole setup, and the Dedica does not grind. Pressurized dual-wall baskets let you start with pre-ground coffee, but they will not let you dial in a real single-wall shot. A blade mill or a drip burr grinder will choke the shot or let it gush.
The grinder we suggest is the TIMEMORE Chestnut C3 ESP (not the C3 ESP Pro). It is espresso-capable, has no motor, and fits in a drawer, leaving the slim Dedica as the one appliance on the counter. Our grinder guide for the Breville Bambino explains it in detail, and the advice applies to the Dedica too.
If you already know you will not hand grind, read First Espresso Setup If You Cannot Hand Grind, and buy any electric grinder new.
You still need a scale, because dose and yield have to be weighed. See our beginner espresso setup guide and how to split a beginner budget. Spend any money left over on the grinder and scale before a standalone frother. The Dedica already has a manual milk frother.
Dedica classic: why we recommend it
Good for: renters who need an ultra-narrow, tank-fed machine on the counter
Why we chose it:
The classic De'Longhi Dedica EC680M is the machine this guide recommends. It is not the Deluxe. It has an ultra-narrow footprint, a removable tank, and pressurized baskets that suit beginners. It needs no plumbing and has no built-in grinder. When we checked on September 4, 2026, Amazon.com was the seller. Buy it new, check the current price and seller before you order, and skip resale offers.
Good fit if:
- width is your real constraint, and you have measured about 5.9 in plus swing room
- you will refill a tank of about 35 oz and will not plumb in
- you will buy it new from a seller you trust
- you will buy a grinder such as the C3 ESP instead of skipping it
- you can lift about 9–10 lb at move-out
Skip it if:
- you need a budget machine like the Stilosa
- you want Bambino ThermoJet speed and can buy it new
- you were about to buy the Deluxe from a third-party seller thinking it is the classic model
- you want 58 mm parts later (see the Gaggia guide)
- you refuse to buy a grinder
Small-space notes:
The 5.9 in width suits small apartments; the 13 in depth is what to measure carefully. Measure cabinet height against 12 in plus cup clearance. Keep it near the sink, pull the tank to refill, and wipe the wand after steaming. Descaling is part of owning it.
Tradeoff:
You get an ultra-narrow machine. You give up the Stilosa's lower price if budget is the priority, the Bambino's ThermoJet speed, and the wider range of 54 mm and 58 mm accessories. This guide covers the narrow classic Dedica, not every De'Longhi on Amazon.
Before you buy on Amazon:
Check that the listing is the classic Dedica EC680M in metal/stainless. Also check that it is new, the US-voltage version, and comes with the portafilter and baskets, and check the seller, returns, and current price. Skip resale offers. Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KA8YC6A?tag=next-1-20
Dedica Deluxe: why we do not recommend it here
Good for: shoppers who specifically want the Deluxe's features and will check that the offer is new
The Dedica Deluxe (EC685M) is a separate model. In our recent research, its Amazon offer was shipped and sold by Coffee Appliances, a third-party seller, rather than Amazon.com. If you want the Deluxe, check that the offer is new and check the seller before you buy. Its similar slim footprint does not make it the same machine as the classic Dedica.
Breville Bambino: covered in other guides
Good for: fast weekday ThermoJet heat-up, bought new
We cover the Bambino in Espresso Machines for Apartments, Compact Espresso Machines for Small Kitchens, and Bambino vs Dedica. This guide focuses on the Dedica. If you choose the Bambino, buy it new.
Common mistakes
Buying the Deluxe from a third-party seller thinking it is the classic Dedica.
Expecting this guide to compare budget machines. For that, read the Stilosa budget guide.
Skipping the grinder. Pressurized baskets are a start, not a dial-in. Get an espresso-capable grinder such as the C3 ESP (not the Pro). A drip grinder will not work.
Trusting an old price. Prices change, so check Amazon when you buy.
Assuming 54 mm Bambino or 58 mm Gaggia parts fit the Dedica. Check the Dedica's portafilter size before you buy a basket.
Planning to plumb it in. It uses a removable tank, and a rental does not give you a drain line.
FAQ
Is Dedica good for apartments?
Yes, if counter width is your constraint and you want a removable tank and a machine you can move at move-out. Buy the classic Dedica new from a seller you trust.
Do I need a grinder for Dedica?
Yes, if you want espresso beyond pressurized pre-ground coffee. A good match is the TIMEMORE Chestnut C3 ESP (not the Pro). See our grinder guide for the Breville Bambino.
Can I plumb in Dedica?
No. It uses a removable tank. Fill the tank; do not drill the counter.
How wide is Dedica classic?
About 5.9 in wide. De'Longhi US lists 13 × 5.9 × 12, and Amazon commonly shows 13"D × 5.9"W × 12"H. Measure your space before you order.
Is the Dedica Deluxe a better choice for apartments?
We do not recommend it in this guide. It is a separate model. If you want it, check that the offer is new and check the seller.
Final Recommendation
If you need an ultra-narrow espresso machine for your apartment, buy the classic De'Longhi Dedica new. Check the seller and current price. Prices and availability change, so check on the day you order. Skip resale offers.
Do not buy the Deluxe thinking it is the classic model. For fast ThermoJet heat-up, see our Bambino guides and buy it new. For a budget machine, see our Stilosa guide. Pair the Dedica with a C3 ESP (not the Pro).
Before buying, recheck the seller, exact model, color, voltage, condition, returns, price, and availability on amazon.com.
